Our History ... chartered on April 29, 2009
Loudoun County Virginia, one of the fastest growing and wealthiest counties in the nation was desperately yearning for a chapter of the illustrious Sorority of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., to be formed. Through the leadership and vision of Soror Linda Griffin this effort was launched in September of 2008. Soror Griffin requested approval for a charter application from the South Atlantic Regional Director, Soror Linda Wilson on October 15, 2008. The charter application was received by Soror Griffin on October 29, 2008 and the chapter development was well on its way.
The first interest meeting was graciously held at the home of Soror Linda Griffin, with 19 jubilant sorors in attendance and much excitement in the air. Realizing the increased number of Deltas moving into Loudoun County these magnificent Sorors felt a strong desire to form a chapter. Two weeks later on October 25, 2009 the Sorors convened for the second interest meeting at the home of Soror Seleah Wyche Joyner with 14 Sorors in attendance. These Sorors eagerly put out the call for area Deltas to come together to form a charter chapter in Loudoun County and received an overwhelming response. On February 15, 2009 … 30 charming Sorors from all over Loudoun County Virginia gathered together at the home of Soror Dawn McKenzie for the final interest meeting. A heartfelt bond of sisterhood filled this meeting and the seed for the charter chapter was planted.
On February 23, 2009 Soror Griffin enthusiastically submitted the charter application, which included the names of 41 dynamic Sorors. South Atlantic Regional Director, Soror Linda Wilson called Soror Griffin on March 31, 2009 to inform her that the charter application to form a Loudoun County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was approved by Delta National Headquaters.
The Chartering Ceremony was conducted by Linda Wilson, South Atlantic Regional Director and was held at Ashburn Village Clubhouse in Ashburn, Virginia. Approximately 64 Sorors from Fairfax Alumnae, Northern Virginia Alumnae, West Virginia Alumnae, Prince Georges Alumnae, Federal City Alumnae Fredericksburg Alumnae and Prince William Alumnae Chapters came out to witness the chapter’s induction.
The first Loudoun County Alumnae Chapter meeting was held immediately after the chapter’s chartering ceremony and an election of officers took place.
